Arto was the first major social media platform in Denmark - the servers were switched on in 1998, long before the term 'social media' existed. But the internet changes quickly, with new services constantly arriving and replacing old ones. And the time came for Arto to step down in its former shape. We are proud of our contribution to Danish internet history, but also deeply grateful to everyone who truly created Arto: you and everyone else behind the screens. You created all the content, started all the friendships, sent all the messages, added all the photos, and everything else people could do on Arto. So from the heart, thank you for YOUR contribution to the story! Do you miss Arto? We understand! For several years, Arto was the most visited website in Denmark. It had far more traffic than DR, TV2, Ekstra Bladet, DBA, and others combined! Almost every young person had a profile on Arto, and billions of messages were sent and millions of photos added. On a typical evening there were many thousands of page views every second. Over time, Arto had different designs, but two defined the era when Arto was at its peak. Our latest design, internally called R3, can be seen here on the Wayback Machine. The earlier design, R2, can also be found on the Wayback Machine, and there are images below as well. You can also download all of Arto in WARC format. It is a static version of all publicly available pages, including all profiles. It is around 4 TB and a difficult format to handle, so this is mostly for archival services, libraries, and researchers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
